Going Green Pesticide Free Policy Document for the Parish Council
First draft 30/11/24. Second draft 4/12/24. Third draft 11th Dec. Fourth draft 13th Dec. Final 15/12/24
Statement of intent (note the term Pesticides includes Herbicides)
‘Protecting People, Pets, Pollinators and our Planet for future generations’.
The Parish Council is committed to not using pesticides on assets we own or manage, for example the Cemetery, Mill Quay, the Leats and Sands car park, and to encouraging and supporting a phase out of pesticide use more widely across our parish. Ultimately, we aspire to make our villages Pesticide-Free areas in order to protect people, pets and pollinators as well as the planet for the heathy and sustainable future of everyone.
Overall aims
- To maintain a pesticide=free parish council. This includes its officers and contractors on all land that is directly or indirectly under its control.
- To encourage other key stakeholders to follow suit while reducing and wherever possible ultimately ending the use of pesticides on land under their control.
- To support pesticide free farming practices by championing our local organic and sustainable producers
- To encourage the wider community to stop the use of pesticides in gardens, allotments and other areas as well as in reducing the environmental risks of the pesticides in pet treatments entering our water ways
- To support Going Green ‘in getting the message out there’ through social media, community events, posters and word of mouth and to produce a community led action plan.
